Help with a new book

Some time in the next few weeks, I plan to launch a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a new graphics book. It’s an enormous topic so I could probably write a few thousand pages on the topic, but that would probably not meet peoples’ needs very well.

Please take a few moments to fill out my Google Forms survey to tell me which topics you think would be most useful to you. The survey only includes 17 multiple choice questions so it shouldn’t take too long.

Regarding the book format, for electronic you have listed PDF. Is that final or do you plan on offering EPUB formats? I have to admit, despite having literally hundreds of novels in e-book format, I still tend to buy computer books as actual physical books, as generally you use them as references (and besides e-readers have really tiny screens which don’t lend well to technical reading). And as for reading them on a desktop computer, the only one that I recall reading “on screen” was Game Programming Patterns by Robert Nystrom – and I’d still prefer a paperback.

    Hi Richard,

I know what you mean. I usually prefer printed books, too, but an electronic format give us several advantages mainly dealing with cost. A printed book would probably cost a lot more, possibly twice as much when you include shipping. And color is surprisingly expensive to print. With a PDF or other epub format, I can use full color for every figure.

(I don’t know anything about other epub formats so right now I’m just thinking about PDF.)

Please make your votes known on the form. (So far most people seem happy with an electronic format.)
